Warren E. Shull Adviser of the Year Award

Each year, the National Association of Student Councils (NASC) recognizes two student council advisers--one from the high school level and one from the middle level--with a Warren E. Shull Adviser of the Year Award, in honor of Warren E. Shull, who founded NASC in 1931.

The Shull Awards are given to high school and middle level student council advisers who demonstrate exemplary character, leadership, and commitment to the development of young people as student leaders. While individual winners are selected at the state, regional, and national levels, the true purpose of the award is to highlight the many contributions made by all student council advisers nationwide.

NASC congratulates the high school and middle level Region Finalists for the 2012 Warren E. Shull Advisers of the Year Awards.  National Winners will be named in June during the NASC National Conference (June 23-25) in Oklahoma City, OK.  Region Finalists each receive a complimentary registration to the conference and during the event will be recognized on stage with special plaques honoring them for their outstanding commitment and leadership to their student councils.

Nomination Procedure
Nomination forms are mailed by the NASC national office to all state associations each spring and posted on the NASC website each summer. Each state association may nominate one student council adviser whose school is currently an NASC member and has been a member of NASC for at least two years. Nominations must be made on the official application and submitted to the NASC National Office postmarked by the December 1, 2011 deadline. (See photo requirements on page 2 of the application.)

Current NASC National Advisory Council members are not eligible for nomination. Former NASC Council members may apply after a two-year waiting period following their term. A Regional Finalist shall not be re-considered for regional selection for three [3] years following the award.

Advisers selected as Regional Finalists will be notified in February, 2012.

Selection Procedure
The NASC National Advisory Council has the monumental challenge of selecting the Regional and National Warren E. Shull winners. Pairs of council members select Region Finalists and the entire council participates in selection of the national winners. Selections are made during the council’s annual meeting held in January. Region Finalists are notified of their selections in early February.

Awards
Each regional finalist and the two national winners will be presented with specially designed plaques provided by Herff Jones, Inc.  Additionally, each national winner receives a $500 cash award.
