Notice to Active NASC Members:
The renewal invoices for the 2010-2011 school year were mailed to the attention of your school principal on March 16. The second notice will be mailed in July, and the third in October. The annual affiliation fee for the 2010-2011 school year is $95.

New for this year! - For an additional cost of $30, you can add your co-adviser to your NASC membership. Registered co-advisers receive full access to the Adviser Zone and other password-protected materials, a subscription to Leadership for Student Activities magazine, the NASC E-Bulletin, and their own NASC member card.

To help distinguish our invoices from other mailings, please look for:

  • The $95 invoice amount
  • The official NASC logo
  • The return address in Reston, vA

In order to ensure the timely receipt of the back-to-school mailings for councils in the fall, please renew by June 30, 2010. Please include any updated information about your chapter (new adviser, new principal, new school name or address, etc.) on the form. Renewals received after June 30 may result in delayed mailings and updates. Checks should be made payable to the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the parent organization of NASC.

Didn't receive your invoice by June 30? Download the 2010-11 renewal invoice or contact our Membership Department at (800) 253-7746, option 4, email membership@nasc.us. Staff members are available to assist you between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., EST, Monday through Friday.

What are the benefits of NASC membership?
Benefits List

How much is the annual affiliation fee?
NASC membership is a school membership. For the coming membership year (July 1, 2009-June 30, 2010) is $95.00.

Why should our school belong to both our state organization and NASC?
Many student councils are members of the NASC and their state student council organizations so that they benefit from both. With the NASC membership you will receive our monthly magazine, Leadership for Student Activities, which is published throughout the school year, along with other resources that are mailed each year to members. These resources include a publication each year on a student activities topic, materials for National Student Leadership Week, and information about various scholarships and programs. Membership also entitles your school to receive the member discount rates on products and publications in the NASC Store, and on registrations to all of our leadership conferences.

Is NASC for middle level and elementary student councils?
The NASC is for students in grades 6-12. We offer programming at all NASC conferences that is specifically developed for middle level student leaders and their advisers. In addition, we have a "Middle Level Activities" column each month in Leadership magazine and a variety of publications for middle level student councils. We also offer middle level resources in our catalog and online store.

For information regarding student council for grades below the 6th, please contact the National Association of Elementary School Principals.

How do we keep the school's NASC membership active?

  • The membership year runs July 1 to June 30.
  • Invoices are sent to principals, rather than bookkeepers and advisers, because the annual fees are for the school's affiliation.
  • The first round of renewal invoices is mailed March/April. Second notices are mailed in July, and third notices are sent out in the fall.
  • Payments can be made by either check or credit card. Purchase orders are not accepted for NASC affiliation payments.
  • Affiliation payments should be mailed by June 30 to ensure uninterrupted benefits for the upcoming school year. For schools that need to pay after July 1 because of fiscal year restrictions, we recommend that you budget a double payment one year to get your school on schedule with the June 30 expiration date.
  • Always return the entire completed and updated renewal invoice with your fees payment.
  • If your principal does not receive scheduled invoices, please contact the Membership Department at (800) 253-7746.

How long does it take for the school's payment to be processed?
The official answer is 4-6 weeks. At slower times during the year, fees payments can certainly be processed sooner than that, but at peak membership renewal times, falling anywhere between April and November, the Membership Department can receive from 500 to 1,000 renewals a day. We try our best to get the payments entered and the school information updated as quickly as possible, but you will still need to allow 4-6 weeks for the whole process to be completed.

What does NASSP have to do with my school's NASC membership?
The National Association of Secondary School Principals is the proud sponsor of the National Association of Student Councils. Many school principals have personal memberships with NASSP, but a school's NASC affiliation and an administrator's NASSP principal membership are in no way connected. An active NASSP membership for one of your school administrators or teachers does not automatically give your school an active affiliation with NASC.

What are things I need to be aware of during the membership year?

March
Renewal invoices are sent to principals for the upcoming year.

July/August
A second renewal invoice is sent to principals as a reminder that fees have not yet been received by NASC.

August
At the beginning of the month, mailing lists are compiled for fall mailings of scholarship information, NASC help lines, the NASC catalog, and the September issue of Leadership for Student Activities. If your school has not renewed, there will be a reminder to the adviser included with the magazine stating "This is your last issue".

Pay fees by June 30 to ensure that your school's advisers are on these mailing lists. On time payments also ensure that your adviser will have access to the members-only areas of the NASC Web site by the beginning of the school year and will receive all issues of the NASC E-Bulletin online newsletter.

September/October
A third renewal invoice is sent to principals if fees were not previously received.

Certificates indicating the school's active membership for the year with NASC are sent to principals.

If the NASC advisers listed on your fees invoice do not receive the back-to-school mailing or the Leadership for Student Activities magazine, check to see that the school membership has been paid.

September-May
Leadership for Student Activities is published September through May. To make sure that advisers receive their full subscription, make sure the membership fees are paid by June 30 of each year.

The NASC E-Bulletin is an online newsletter published monthly September through June.  Advisers providing emails on NASC Membership forms and Renewal Invoices will automatically be registered to receive the E-Bulletin.  Advisers, students and principals may also sign up for the E-Bulletin on the NASC home page.
